Web can fill in as a stage where all the dissidents can impart in a typical gathering and offer thoughts with respect to how the dissent can be activated. Additionally, they can likewise advance their development in the internet based life where an ever increasing number of adherents can go along with them in their development. On the off chance that anybody doesn't concur with the conclusion, he can simply decide to impart his perspectives to the banner or can simply decide to disregard. According to the specialists, the majority of the nations are currently just nations and subsequently, every one of the people living in the nation has the right to speak freely anyplace whenever. Contentions against the Topic While all the contentions have been found to help the specific theme, there are various different works that firmly contend against the option to post anything on the web. There are a few reasons that have been introduced by analysts. A portion of the significant reasons are recorded and introduced as follows. Thus, a hot-headed contention begins and the poisonousness spreads over the whole gathering with an ever increasing number of individuals joining the contention. For example, in the realm of football, there is an extraordinary piece of discussion among the fans about who is the best Messi or Ronaldo. While the greater part of the intelligent individuals concur that bot h are similarly acceptable in their separate positions, some others keep on bantering on the subject and it turns harmful in a matter of seconds. From a correlation of insights of two players, the discussion transforms into slangs and individual assaults. At times, these discussions cause extraordinary mental harm on a portion of the more youthful members of the discussion. Thus, the scientists have opined against posting anything on the web that may spread poisonousness over the gathering. The greater part of the occasions, these are just tricks that are later uncovered too. Nonetheless, some of them are done exclusively on the reason for vengeance and cause genuine mental harm on the objective of the assault that may likewise prompt his/her self destruction. This procedure is additionally used by various associations to speak more loudly against the opponent associations with the goal that their market intensity can increment. Both of these issues are undesirable and ought to be halted using any and all means. Political Violence While a few scientists have upheld the posts in the web for assembling a dissent, these presents can in some cases lead on extreme political brutality in an area or nation. Now and then, the posts are straightforwardly focused towards a political individual or a gathering and this circumstance brings about extreme ramifications. A few posts are legitimately warmed against a political element while some others are made utilizing images or kid's shows that in a roundabout way mock a specific political element. In numerous nations, these exercises lead to the capture of the individual who makes these posts. The capture thusly bring about dissent of everyday citizens that before long include the contradicting party and a political war begins quickly (Xu 2014). Nonetheless, in these wars, the political pioneers experience no damage, it is the ordinary citizens who are influenced. These political wars before long go to road battles, mass captures and afterward check in t ime. Consequently, analysts have exhorted individuals to make reasonable posts in open discussion and not simply irregular anything that can bring about political end times. Strict Sentiments This is another difficult issue that ascents from the outlandish posts made by certain individuals to intentionally hurt strict assessments of the others. Strict prejudice is a difficult issue in the present world and even littlest of incitements can prompt enormous strict battles. As of now in a few pieces of the world, numerous nations are battling with one another dependent on strict contrasts (Israel-Palestine, India-Pakistan to give some examples) (Stavrou et al. 2014). Further incitement in the web can outrage much more individuals who will at that point firmly favor between nation wars. In addition, because of these issues, the common connections between two neighboring nations additionally separate with time. Thus, analysts have communicated their anxiety that illogical posts in web can prompt genuine religion-based battles. Inexplicit Contents and Lack of Censoring The specialists () said that in the web open gatherings nowadays, there are additionally youngsters (age gathering of underneath 18) who consistently partake in the open conversations. Online networking stages like Facebook have a great many clients who are younger than 15. Be that as it may, a few posts of more seasoned individuals are express in nature and contain no adequate editing (Mitrou et al. 2014). These posts incorporate viciousness or murder scenes, grown-up slangs, explicit substance, upsetting recordings like passing minutes and others. These substance are not appropriate for the youngsters as they can get ruined effectively and that thus contrarily influences their instruction and learning. The majority of the clients couldn't care less about these realities and keep on posting inexplicit substance in the discussions. Modest Proposal - Free Essay Example

For preventing the poor people on streets, from taking our sidewalk side space and money, and making them beneficial to the economy. By Hailey Wright When you are walking the streets of downtown, and all you see is smelly, dirty homeless people begging for money. All they do is take up all the space on the sidewalks with their cardboard signs and begging for money, annoying people while they walk by the homeless because they are scary and harmful. Instead of them trying to find a job, theyre always asking for money and when they do get money, they never use it for food and water, theyll most likely spend it on drugs. Homeless people make our cities look horrible, dirty and poor which gives our cities a bad reputation. Theyre a burden to our society and something needs to be done about it. There is no reason for such dirty people to be apart of what seems to be a clean society. The homeless are bringing down the look of this society and environment. The look they are giving our environment is a poor, dirty, uninviting look that scares people away. As a proposal, they should be forced to work extra hard so that the higher class of society dont have to work as hard. After all the homeless are taking up all of the space for free, so they might as well do all of the dirty work no one else has any interest in doing, to get it over with. Maybe that will make them seem like a less of a burden to our society. If that does not work, we can just ship them off to an island for the homeless so we do not have to worry about them anymore. But it also makes since to place these people in some type of imprisonment too. That will clean up the streets for sure. With help from these proposals there should be no reason for such dirty people to continue to be apart of our society. Once the homeless is gone, the city will become more inviting, and appealing to visitors, this might even make some want to stay. Firstly, we could build more homeless shelters and provide them with more resources to feed them and help them get back on their feet. Secondly, we can could take abandon houses and instead of tearing them down or just letting them rot away we could turn them into homes for them homeless. Thirdly, we could give them jobs and help them little jobs like cleaning up the roads or cutting the grass for government buildings just to help them make a little bit of money. But none of that will work because no one is willing to put in the work help out others when they need it most, they are just selfish and only care about themselves. I do not have any real intentions in trying to imprison people or send them away just because they do not have a place to sleep or anything to eat. We just need to help others out more and help these people find a way to seek shelter and food. Weather we do this by sending more food to food backs and shelters or weather it be helping them find jobs there is a real solution here that can be taken to fix this epidemic. The amount of homeless people in the United States is ridiculous and we should really do something about it because people are suffering.

The Stages Of Development On The Subject Of Adolescence...

Conducting this interview helped me understand the stages of development on the subject of adolescence and middle adulthood. Since there are a lot of preconceived notions about these life stages, it was somewhat challenging. This learning experience (and other lessons), I believe, will help me prepare in the field of human services. The main focus is the similarities and differences about these two interviewees and to reflect upon the interviews. To start, my interviewees, Natalie and Cristian responded to questions that I asked them to answer; the answers were very different between these two individuals. When I interviewed Natalie, I asked her what is the best time of Life? She said middle age is ‘’the best time of my life.’’ which is different from the second interviewee Natalie believes middle adulthood is the best time because her life has become more stable and she is able to focus more on her family. Obviously, there are reasons behind this; their an swers reflect on the kind of person they are. According to Berk, Women can be become ‘’more dominant in family relationships,’’ they more expressive about their feelings and sentiments and it is more common once they reach middle adulthood. (Berk, 2014, p. 430) In addition, middle-aged people become more compassionate, sensitive, and thoughtful, according to Berk. Which might explain why Natalie wants to be closer to her children. These characteristics might bring her family closer together. Evolution And Devolution Of The Mass Media - 994 Words

Kevin Xhemali English 101 tu/thu 9:20-10:45 The Evolution and Devolution of the Mass Media The political behavior of citizens, policymakers, and the political agenda are increasingly shaped by the mass media. Throughout our country s relatively modern political history, what the masses consume on television, radio, newspapers, and now the Internet, guides and shapes a person s respective political ideology in a significant manner. Although numerous factors are involved in shaping a political ideology, the media is the most crucial as it is the most consistent influencing factor throughout a person s lifetime, and acts as the ongoing†¦show more content†¦Although intended to be mostly politically based, and not really a commercial force, the evolution of mass media proved to be principally contradictory to the original intent of the First Amendment. During the 19th and early 20th centuries, journalism was obtained through almost exclusively print media which was the dominant form of media at the time. Print media consists of books, newspapers, newsletters, and magazines. The earliest forms of print media began with The Federalist papers which were a collection of articles and essays written by James Madison, post Articles of Confederation in order to promote the ratification of the United States Constitution during the late 1780s. For a long time newspapers stuck to that initial format of politically run non-profit news; however by the mid-19th century, print media had drastically evolved. The remodeling of the whole system was due to several factors, including the invention of the telegraph. The telegraph allowed information to be transported in an incredibly timely manner. It allowed media outlets to receive news dispatches all around the globe at a much faster and consistent rate. Innovative steam-powered printing presses al lowed for a significant increase in physical output, while simultaneous growing literacy rates resulted in higher

Industrial Systems Labor Relationship

Question: Discuss about the case study Industrial Systems for Labor Relationship. Answer: The Industrial Systems Approach to Labor Relationship In our case study of McDonalds, the treatment about young teenager employees suffering in the hands of their supervisors for undue or slight mistakes on their part. We have tried to consider how the Systems Approach of Human Resources formulated by Dunlop in his industrial labor treatment context. It might help resolve the issues faced by young employees of McDonalds Squamish outlets. Firstly, we delve deep into the cause of the issue. The Environmental factors can be further classified as financial constraints which can be used to justify the other factors at play reasonably here(Setlow, Lawson and Woods 1998). McDonalds employees at higher levels of hierarchy formulate economic policies which regulate the supervisors behavior towards the overall workforce regarding payment. The directors are highly responsible and bound by the companys policy for gross payment and financial restriction meted out to the employees in general. The students working with the McDonalds outlet were profoundly influenced by the socio-economic conditions of their parents working with the local industries were organized unionized culture are omnipresent motivated them to reach out to the union. Squamish as a city consists of a population mainly working with the local saw and pulp industries with a history of organized industrial unions(Brown 2015). The availability of technology to active ly solve day to day demands of the McDonalds outlet issues played a vital role the conflict. The young teenager student employees demanded better treatment at work. But their demands for better treatment at workplace were not paid attention to. The supervisor turned down their request for proper dignity while working at the outlet. All these reasons were jointly responsible for the teenage employees to contact the central McDonalds Union to mitigate the root causes faced by them. References Brown, W. (2015). The Handmaids Tale Margaret Atwoods Essay Example For Students

The Handmaids Tale Margaret Atwoods Essay In Margaret Atwoods novel, â€Å"The Handmaids Tale†, the birth rate in the United States had dropped so low that extremists decided to take matters into their own hands by killing off the government, taking over themselves, and reducing the womens role in society to that of a silent birthing machine. One handmaid describes what happened and how it came about as she, too, is forced to comply with the new order. Before the new order, known as the Sons of Jacob, took over, women had a lot to be afraid of. They had freedom to do whatever they wanted, but this freedom was severely inhibited by maniacs who could strike at any time. Women followed rules to keep them out of danger, but they were not enforced. â€Å"I remember the rules, rules that were never spelled out but that every woman knew; dont open your door to a stranger, even if he is the police. Make him slide his ID under the door. Dont stop on the road to help a motorist pretending to be in trouble. Keep the locks on and keep going. If anyone whistles, dont turn to look. Dont go into a laundromat, by yourself, at night. †¦ Women were not protected then. †(p. 24) Nobody believed it could happen to them. When the Sons of Jacob took over and began to take away their freedom, they accepted it. They were afraid and the Sons gave them some security. Because they accepted the first few laws, it was hard to refuse to not go along with the ones that followed. When the women were finally stripped of their identities, they felt as though they had deserved it because they had done nothing to try and save any of their other rights. â€Å"We looked at one anothers faces and saw dismay, and a certain shame, as if wed been caught doing something we shouldnt. Its outrageous one woman said, but without belief. What was it about this that made us feel we deserved it? (p. 166) The Sons used this insecurity to round up the women and place them in nstitutions where they would be â€Å"safe†. Once they had them within their clutches, they were able to use them for their own purposes. The key to the whole program was using other women to train and control them. It is hard to go against your own kind, and the Sons knew that if they used men, it wouldnt work. The women would feel oppressed and strike back as one group, or could too easily seduce the males to get their own way. â€Å"Something could be exchanged†¦ We still had our bodies. (p. 4) By using other women, known as the Aunts, they could tell the women that they understood and new what it was like, and that all this was for their own good, to keep them safe and make their world a better place. There were many of these training facilities, but we learn the most about the red centers, where the women are trained to be handmaidens. In other words, mistresses, to bear children for wives who were no longer capable of child birth, but too important to get rid of. Older women, and some incapable of child birth were trained as Marthas. They were servants to the wives and raised the children, if they were lucky enough to have one. The poorer women were called Econowives and performed the duties of wife, andmaiden and Martha. The final category was the â€Å"unwomen†; those who had committed some crime such as abortion, or who were too old to be good for anything. These â€Å"unwomen† were sent to the edges of the colonies to clean up nuclear waste or work in the industries. Both of which would soon lead to death. The women were distinguished by the color of robes they wore, which reached to the ground, revealing nothing. .u0b5ad83c948e517a118d1304020c94b0 , .u0b5ad83c948e517a118d1304020c94b0 .postImageUrl , .u0b5ad83c948e517a118d1304020c94b0 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u0b5ad83c948e517a118d1304020c94b0 , .u0b5ad83c948e517a118d1304020c94b0:hover , .u0b5ad83c948e517a118d1304020c94b0:visited , .u0b5ad83c948e517a118d1304020c94b0:active { border:0!important; } .u0b5ad83c948e517a118d1304020c94b0 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u0b5ad83c948e517a118d1304020c94b0 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u0b5ad83c948e517a118d1304020c94b0:active , .u0b5ad83c948e517a118d1304020c94b0:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u0b5ad83c948e517a118d1304020c94b0 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u0b5ad83c948e517a118d1304020c94b0 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u0b5ad83c948e517a118d1304020c94b0 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u0b5ad83c948e517a118d1304020c94b0 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u0b5ad83c948e517a118d1304020c94b0:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u0b5ad83c948e517a118d1304020c94b0 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u0b5ad83c948e517a118d1304020c94b0 .u0b5ad83c948e517a118d1304020c94b0-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u0b5ad83c948e517a118d1304020c94b0:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The emotion and tragic EssayThis was another way of keeping them safe, so men would not be tempted. The handmaids wore red, the Marthas green, the wives blue, daughters white, the unwomen wore grey, and â€Å"the striped dresses, ed and blue and green and cheap and skimpy, mark the women of the poorer men. †(p. 23) the econowives. â€Å"Sometimes there is a woman all in black, a widow. There used to be more of them, but they seem to be diminishing. †(p. 23) The Sons of Jacob did not want any fertile women to go to waste. The handmaids and Marthas were then given positions in the houses. Marthas were permanent, but a handmaid changed every three years, if they lasted that long. Becoming pregnant was always first and foremost in their minds. Their lives depended on it. The handmaid telling the story grew to despise her body because it determined who she was so completely. Yet, â€Å"No woman in her right mind, these days, would seek to prevent a birth, should she be so lucky as to conceive. †(p. 32) The children of the handmaids were to become the daughters and be married off to the soldiers and begin reproducing as soon as possible. Once more daughters were born and raised, it was planned that there would no longer be any need for the handmaids. The wives had only the duty of hostess, tending the garden, and knitting scarves for the men in the front lines. The wife to which the handmaid served, had in the past given, â€Å"speeches about the sanctity of the home, about how women should stay home. Serena Joy didnt do this herself, she made speeches instead, but she presented this failure of hers as a sacrifice she was making for the good of all. † Now, â€Å"She stays in her home, but it doesnt seem to agree with her — How furious she must be, now that shes been taken at her word. (p. 43) Before the Sons of Jacob took over, there were many reasons why people were no longer having children at the normal rate. First, the pollution, diseases, nuclear problems and resulting mutants deterred people from having children because the future looked pretty bleak. Secondly, crime rate was very high, with most of them being sexual atrocities. Women and children were in danger, yet many people denied that such things could ever happen to them, and did nothing to stop it. Thirdly, everyone had become very materialistic. People spent their whole lives striving to be the best and have the most, giving no thought to others, and having no time or money for children. People were afraid to bring a child up in a world such as it was, and abortions and birth control devices were common. The blame, however, was placed on the women, since they could choose whether or not to bear children. Yet people still were desperate for children, and wanted them at any ost. â€Å"I turned around and she was disappearing down the aisle, in the arms of a woman Id never seen before†¦ I thought it was an isolated incident, at the time†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (p. 9) Once the Sons took over, this became the norm. Children were taken from women who were deemed unfit, and given to people who would raise them â€Å"right†. All for the good of their country. â€Å"Better never means better for everyone, †¦ It always means worse, for some. †(p. 198) People did not want to acknowledge how society was falling to pieces around them. â€Å"We lived, as usual, by ignoring. Ignoring isnt the same as ignorance, you have to work at it. (p. 53) The Sons created a world where it would be safe for children, and women. It also eliminated sex. It was no longer for enjoyment, but a necessity for life. .ub9cdbae5d3a44e4816ed716eb4565761 , .ub9cdbae5d3a44e4816ed716eb4565761 .postImageUrl , .ub9cdbae5d3a44e4816ed716eb4565761 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ub9cdbae5d3a44e4816ed716eb4565761 , .ub9cdbae5d3a44e4816ed716eb4565761:hover , .ub9cdbae5d3a44e4816ed716eb4565761:visited , .ub9cdbae5d3a44e4816ed716eb4565761:active { border:0!important; } .ub9cdbae5d3a44e4816ed716eb4565761 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ub9cdbae5d3a44e4816ed716eb4565761 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ub9cdbae5d3a44e4816ed716eb4565761:active , .ub9cdbae5d3a44e4816ed716eb4565761:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ub9cdbae5d3a44e4816ed716eb4565761 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ub9cdbae5d3a44e4816ed716eb4565761 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ub9cdbae5d3a44e4816ed716eb4565761 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ub9cdbae5d3a44e4816ed716eb4565761 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ub9cdbae5d3a44e4816ed716eb4565761:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ub9cdbae5d3a44e4816ed716eb4565761 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ub9cdbae5d3a44e4816ed716eb4565761 .ub9cdbae5d3a44e4816ed716eb4565761-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ub9cdbae5d3a44e4816ed716eb4565761:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Itchoua EssayBefore it had been out of control, â€Å"There were stories in the newspapers†¦ but they were about other women, and the men who did such things were other men. It is a fascinating topic, as it examines the history of the African American experience and how it has influenced the present-day American experience, politics, society, society in general, history, etc. Many people who teach the concept of African American exceptionalism are trying to understand why there is such a need for such study. The answer may be that African Americans is seen as exceptional in history, and they tend to believe in their uniqueness and view others as similar to them. There are African American colleges, which offer programs that last from six months to two years. These colleges are more about personal growth and the development of character than in imparting any formal education.Other institutions, like those run by African American organizations have been established to give guidance and support to African American students. They also work for the improvement of the quality of life of the African Americans living in the United States. They provide scholarships to the deserving and work for social change. The demisi ng of Africa essay sample in America is mostly due to the fact that it has very little official support. The Homeless in England Essay Example For Students

The Homeless in England Essay Introduction I decided to study the homeless situation before we went to England, so I tried to get information about it via the internet, but it was so much information that I soon gave up When we got to England I thought about changing subject to the pub culture because it seemed easier to write about, but after a few days I had seen so many homeless people that I got used to it and therefor dared to talk to them and ask them questions about their situation and why they where homeless. Many people just walked right by the homeless without even look at them (rather the reverse, look another way), but other people stopped to talk to them and buy their paper. We will write a custom essay on The Homeless in England specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Ive used the homeless people as sources and also their paper. When I came home I searched on the internet to get information and there was a lot of it, so I choosed some headings and took a closer look at them. Whos homeless? I thought, before I went to England, that every homeless person was that by his/her own choice, but after talking to them and read about it I know that some of the homeless is that by their own choice. They choose to be homeless for different reasons, like a protest against the society or just to try the homeless life. 25% of the homeless are war veterans and most of them from Vietnam. They are mentally traumatised by their war experiences, some of them are disable and others are just unable to find work so they can pay a rent. 25% of the homeless are children and many of them are alone. Theyre maybe run- aways who left home because there was no food at home, or because theyre victims of rape, incest or violence. Many of them are throwaways, whose parents tell them to leave home or wont allow them to return home once theyve left. Many of the homeless are elderly people with fixed income, and I guess thats not the traditional image of homeless people. They receive about 450 a month in benefits and if they pay 350 for rent its pretty logical that they cant live a decent life. Many elderly people are living in poverty in an apartment with no proper heating, no water etc. , and many of the elderly homeless are afraid to go to soup kitchens or shelters, so they arent seen on the streets. Myths Theres a lot of myths going around about the homeless. Very often these myths are told by someone without any or with just a little knowledge about the homeless people and their life. Heres some of the myths: Myth:They want to be homeless. Fact: Some of them yes, but less than 6% of the homeless are homeless by their own choice. I spoke to a man who told me he used to live in Scotland, and that he had a house of his own, a TV, a VCR and so on, but after a concert in London about a year ago, he decided to stay in Brighton to try the homeless life. Now he tried to earn money, so he could get home to Scotland again. Myth:They are heavy drug users and mentally ill. Fact:About 25% of the homeless are emotionally disturbed, but that has a lot to do with that many of them has suffered from child abuse or violence. About 25% uses drugs, but many of them are included in them who suffers from mental illness. Myth:They dont work. Fact:25% of the homeless work full- or part- time. The problem is that people earning a minimum wage doesnt earn enough to support a family of three or rent an apartment in the inner-city. Theres also many of the homeless people who arent able to work and theres many reasons why. Introduction to Art Essays

Introduction to Art Essays Introduction to Art Essay Introduction to Art Essay EXPULSION OF ADAM AND EVE FROM EDEN Charisse Drysdale HUM 100 May 16, 2011 The purpose of this essay is to analyze the painting of Masaccio, Expulsion of Adam and Eve from Eden. Masaccio of the early fourteenth century attempted to observe carefully and to record the variety of his visual experience in a logical and clear manner. Masaccio faced the problem of arranging figures in a mathematically defined space without making the picture appear to be artificially constructed, and thus isolating them from the composition or even sacrificing them to the ideal proportions of the room. Masaccio solved the problem by placing the traditional portraits of his patrons, the figures of God the Father remains unclear, thus softening to some extent the rigors of the mathematical perspective. Masaccios painting is highly dramatic, volumetric, and expansive. The shapes of Masaccios Adam and Eve are constructed not with line but with strongly differentiated areas of light and dark that give them a pronounced three-dimensional sense of relief. The expressive movements and gestures that Masaccio gives to Adam and Eve powerfully convey their anguish at being expelled from the Garden of Eden and adds psychological dimension to the impressive physical realism of these figures. Masaccios harrowing scene of the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden shows the expressive force and directness of his style. An angel drives the sinners into the harsh, barren world, where the light mercilessly exposes their guilt and despair. Masaccios composition is beautifully balanced within the narrow format. The forward movement, dictated by the gesture of the angel, is firmly anchored by the strong vertical running from the heads of Adam and Eve to their heels. The muscular tension of Adams body, and the fluidity of Eves, were inspired by a contemporary relief, Masaccio is one of the first artists to use light realistically, rather than using it to highlight his figures. They are drawn nude, with expressions of pure anguish that invite the viewer to oin them in sadness for the sin that we all share. Masaccio uses naturalism to portray one of the most known stories of his time, and this naturalism draws the reader into the emotions of the figures of the story. Because we share the same sin as the figures in the painting, they are depicted in a naturalistic way to make them seem even more like us. Masaccio was concerned with the naturalistic portrayal of human figures, particularly in terms of shadow and light, color, shape, and dimensions in space. These aspects all relate back to perspective: the painter takes pains to represent the size of the figures accurately and they therefore must further resemble Nature in their form, arrangement, and their ability to cast shadows. The figures must also be arranged in appealing positions, and the composition must have â€Å"dignity† in that there are enough characters to interest the viewer but not so many that the work appears crowded. Lastly, he emphasizes the importance of an istoria. That is, the work should contain some kind of narrative or story. The emotions of the figures must be culpable and real for the viewer: the viewer must enter the story. In sum, a painting must become the viewer’s emotional reality, as well as its physical reality (in that the painter attempts to recreate the plane of vision created by the visual pyramid of the eye). The figures must occupy space, capture light, and have mass: they must be a part of the viewer’s world. Scientific perspective also contributes to the viewer’s perception of the painting as reality; the painting is meant to appear as would a real scene in front of a viewer. The painter can use techniques of color, light, and perception to elicit a controlled response from the viewer. The viewer’s eye takes in the painting as seen from life and enters into the emotions portrayed; the istoria is of upmost importance in creating this illusion. Masaccio is using movement and perspective to create an illusion of space that is not actually there, but that would exist if the painting was reality. In this way, the viewer can enter into the istoria. The illusion of perspective reminds the viewer of their distance from God, their own mortality, and also the role of the Church as intercessor. Once again, the naturalist technique used by Masaccio is to elicit a certain response from the viewer and the world of the painting becomes their own reality.
